What if one of the world’s most strategically protected countries also offered miles of empty coastline where you can truly disappear from all the noise of today’s crazy world…?
This week I’m filming from a nearly completely off-grid stretch of Panama’s gorgeous, pristine Veraguas Peninsula to share why many—including us at Live And Invest Overseas—call this country the world’s ultimate safe haven—and why the real magic begins once you leave the city behind.
Panama holds a unique place in the world, not just for its tropical beauty but for its global importance…
There’s a reason international eyes remain steadily focused on this country—it’s one of the world’s most stable countries when it comes to politics, economics, even being immune to most natural disasters.
Beyond the skyline and shipping lanes of the canal and the capital lies a different Panama entirely… quiet fishing villages, jungle-covered hills, empty beaches, and a rhythm of life that feels increasingly rare.
And that’s where we call home when we’re here in Panama.
If you’ve ever wondered where you could combine security, simplicity, and space to breathe, you should give Panama a look.
Watch this week’s video to see what life looks like when you step off the grid and enjoy life in one of the world’s most quietly strategic countries…

Intro
Hi, I’m Kat Kalashian for Live and Invest Overseas, and I am currently standing out here in one of Panama’s most remote regions, the scenic Veraguas Peninsula.
The ocean is behind me, the sun is setting, and although you cannot fully see the beach from this angle, what matters most is the feeling of this place.
When I’m out here, frankly, it is hard to imagine all the nonsense going on around the world, all the drama, violence, and economic worry. You really do feel a world away from it all. You turn off the news cycle, get outside, enjoy nature, enjoy tranquility, and simply enjoy life.
What Life is Like in Panama’s Interior
Way out here in Panama’s interior, it is also hard to believe that this is the same country that is home to one of the most strategically important waterways on earth.
Out here, there are no high-rises, no traffic, no crowds, no filter, just ocean, jungle, sea air, and an almost complete sense of being off the grid.
But as you can see, there are still amenities. There is electricity. This is not roughing it, and it is not bunker living. It is simply a more remote, more natural version of daily life.
That contrast is exactly what makes Panama so unique.
Why Panama is a Top Retirement Destination
Panama continues to rank as one of the top destinations for expats and retirees looking for both security and lifestyle.
At a global level, Panama holds an unusually stable position because of the Panama Canal. There are few places in the world as strategically important as this country.
The canal is not just a national asset. It is a critical piece of infrastructure for global trade. It moves billions of dollars in goods every year, and its uninterrupted operation is essential to global economic stability.
That reality has contributed to Panama’s strong international ties, political steadiness, and strategic importance in the world.
Put simply, this is a place where the wider world has a vested interest in keeping things stable and secure. And because the canal also brings in billions of dollars annually, Panama remains the richest country in Central America for very good reason.
The Real Magic of Panama
But the real magic of Panama begins once you leave the capital.
Step outside the skyline of Panama City and you enter a very different world, one defined by space, nature, and a much slower pace of life.
Here on the Veraguas Peninsula, you can truly escape it all. You are surrounded by protected coastline, small villages, and landscapes that remain largely untouched by mass development.
It is the kind of place where your daily soundtrack is made up of waves and birds instead of traffic and sirens.
What Panama Offers to Expats and Retirees
For expats and retirees, this translates into something increasingly rare: peace of mind.
Panama offers a combination of factors that is hard to replicate anywhere else. There is a stable, dollar-based economy, an Americanized culture that does not feel too far outside your comfort zone, plenty of English spoken, modern healthcare in the urban centers, and welcoming residency programs for retirees.
There is also a cost of living that still allows for a very comfortable lifestyle.
You can live here very simply, or you can enjoy a luxury seaside lifestyle at a fraction of what that same standard of living would cost back home.
Safety in Panama
Safety in Panama is not only about crime statistics. It is also about resilience and predictability.
Panama lies outside the major hurricane zones. It avoids many of the extreme weather risks seen in other parts of the world, and it maintains consistent infrastructure and services.
That is one reason we have come to think of Panama as an ultimate safe haven. For people seeking a true safe haven, these broader factors matter just as much as day-to-day security.
The Lifestyle in Panama
And then there is the lifestyle itself.
In Panama’s interior, life naturally slows down. People know their neighbors. Fresh food comes in from local farms and markets every day. Daily life revolves around sunlight, tides, and simple routines.
It is a rhythm that feels very distant from modern urban living.
Since being out here, I have found myself waking with the sun, eating dinner early, and falling asleep by 9 p.m. to the sound of the ocean outside my window. It is a radically different pace, and one that feels far more balanced.
That is why places like this, especially remote corners of Panama’s coastline such as Veraguas, hold such strong appeal for people looking to reset, retire, or simply build a more grounded life abroad.
It is also becoming attractive to digital nomads, who can combine the reassurance of living in a strategically stable country with the freedom to step away from the noise of the world.
Standing here with nothing but the ocean nearby, it is easy to understand why so many people see Panama not just as a destination, but as one of the ultimate safe havens on the planet.
