Everything You Need To Launch Your Self-Sufficient Life

The Self-Sufficient Life—Your Way

From our early morning beer tasting… to strolling through the farmer’s market… to watching one of the farmer’s wives pluck a duck in record time… what an experience to be in San Ignacio last week…

At this first Self-Sufficiency Seminar, all our attendees (and staff) were eager to learn more about self-sufficient practices and how to live closer to nature… to grow our own tasty fruit and vegetables for the table (and for extra income)… to plan more sustainable homes… to raise poultry and livestock… to produce energy in our backyard… to use natural remedies… and lots more…

One of the highlights for me was to finally experience Carmelita Gardens—a planned community with self-sufficiency at the core of its living. Here, you can get your hands dirty with planting and harvesting, or you can simply take advantage of the fruits and vegetables grown on-site that will be made available for residents. Either way, you get to hang out in this special part of the world in good company.

Thomas Barker, farmer at Carmelita Gardens who also spoke at the event, told me about his plans for planting. On his list were some pumpkins and melons of French origin (thanks to the seeds that Kathleen and Lief brought down after their last trip to France). I look forward to returning next year to check in on progress…

If you missed out on all this action in Belize, you can still get the lowdown on these self-sufficient practices—little things you can benefit from right now no matter where you live or how much space you have to play with…

Our brand-new Self-Sufficiency Starter Kit will show you everything you need to get started.

Created by a group of organic farmers, sustainability professionals, and horticulturists with decades of experience, this is your guide to everything you need to know about self-sufficiency.
